CSS was founded in 1912 under the sponsorship of the Benedictine Sisters, with a mission of providing intellectual and moral preparation for responsible living and meaningful work within the context of Catholic Benedictine values. The founding Benedictine Sisters offered courses to a class of six women students on the stately and beautiful Duluth campus. Today CSS programs are offered to more than 4,400 undergraduate and graduate students on the main campus in Duluth, as well as an online campus and satellite campuses in Brainerd, Cloquet, Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Inver Grove Heights, Rochester, Austin, St. Cloud, and St. Paul. The guiding principles of the Benedictines run deep in the roots of life at CSS. The College’s mission is to develop thoughtful and engaged leaders, sharpened and sensitized by their educational experience who are prepared and committed to serving and transforming the world. Company History

The College of St. Scholastica (CSS) prepares students for a life of purpose and meaningful work by emphasizing the Catholic Benedictine values upon which it was founded: community, hospitality, respect, stewardship, and love of learning. Founded in 1912 by a group of pioneering Benedictine Sisters who offered college courses to six young women, St. Scholastica now educates more than 4400 men and women.

In 1924, the College became a four-year liberal arts institute with an enrollment of 68. The school's first baccalaureate degrees were granted in 1926. Currently the College offers more than forty undergraduate majors and pre-professional programs, twelve master's programs, and two doctoral programs. There is also an Accelerated Learning program, which offers courses in the evening.
